A Midsummer Night's Dream de Shakespeare

J'ai vraiment adore ce projet:
On a lu la piece, analyse la psychologie des personnage, melanger le reel au fantastique, on s'est chacun transporte dans des epoques differentes pour placer le scenario dans un temps et un espace precis...
Etre costumiere, c'est tellement plus que de la couture...
Le resultat final depend aux 3/4 de l'analyse du personnage et des moyens visuels qui traduiront les traits de son caractere, les facettes de sa personalite.. c'est passionant!

Pour ce projet, j'ai choisi Erte, l'illustrateur "illustre" des annees 20 qui a debute son succes international en illustrant les couvertures du magazine Harper's Bazaar puis en dessinant des costumes, decors de theatres, bijoux, etc.. Il est une des influences majeures du style Art Deco.
Je l'ai choisi parce que je trouve ses dessins ultra delicats, elegants et sophistiques a la fois. Son gout du detail m'impressione enormement, dans chaque illustration, la coiffure, les bijoux, le maquillage et surtout les Motifs sont extraordinaires!
Les silhouettes qu'il dessine me font tout simplement rever...
Ci-dessus, une illustration qui m'a inspire pour le personnage de Titania.
Reine de la foret, c'est Mother Nature, la source de la vie, en harmonie avec la faune et la flore. Elle est legere, somptueuse et se fond dans la nature comme dans un songe.

So, on thursday I went on St. Hubert street to find fabrics for the historical project. First, I went to Saratext where they had a wide range of upholstery fabric samples. A few of them were perfect but unfortunately they were not for sale and the fabrics could only be ordered a few meters minimum, and i'm not talking about the price! so I forgot about that...

I went to the section of the store where they sell normal fabrics and came across this absolutely Beautiful Silk Jacquard with Rococo designs in a creamy beige color and immediately pictureed the waistcoat I was imagining on Charles. It was on sale (used to be 80$/meter) and I bought a meter for 30$ (it was still expensive but such good quality, i told myself it's worth it!).
The waistcoat will be worn under a long tailored jacket in eggplant colored velvet.
I think the effect will be nice, the jacquard fabric looks refined, bright with a rich luster. It should "pop out" nicely under the eggplant colored jacket!

I still don't know if I should use this jacquard fabric for the pants as well.. I would like to find a silk fabric (maybe shantung) in the same beige creamy color instead.
Otherwise, in the sales section of the store I found a taffeta-like fabric in burgundy red that has rococo flocked design on it, I bought a few meters and thought it would be nice for the jacket details, like part of the pocket flaps, shoulder pads or sleeve cuffs.

Finally, I went to "Textiles Debouk" and bought lining for my jacket: the colour is also eggplant but it's more bright, more vibrant than the velvet. It will make a nice contrast between the velvet and the silk. The last fabric on the right is an acetate lining that I would like to use for the waistcoat.
I am still looking for a linen-silk blend in a creamy white color for the shirt worn under the waistcoat and a beautiful silk scarf for his neck.. and all the trimmings for the jacket, for the pants, the tights and the shoes ..
But I will look for all accessories this summer, when i will be richer!

This movie was a great experience! I've watched a lot of Tim Burton movies and I have to say, in each one of them he always manages to create such a unique atmosphere!

Here, with all the special effects, he truely sent us all into the fantastic wonderland of our childhood.

Acting, soundtrack, graphics and costumes were all VERY impressive! And i found that he presented the story in such a way, that it was fantastic enough (and not too much) that it could reach children and be entertaining for adults too.

For the costumes, the dress that really caught my eye, was the one that the Red Queen gives to Alice. I love the volume of the skirt, the mix of fabrics: it really looks like a seamstress ripped curtains, took bed sheets and anything she could find in the castle to make this beautiful dress. The frill "bandouliere" gives it a sort of "warrior feel".. Loved it !!

The white queen dress was also very nice, and the mad hatter costume looked very bohemian with lots of funny funky details like the coloured thread bobbins "bandouliere"..

Colleen Atwood did a wonderful job interpreting it all, I would be so frenetically happy having the opportunity to work on such a project :)

Voila! And my favorite character was the Red Queen, Helena was Perfectly playing her and I laughed each time she was on screen!

So it was a super good idea to bring us see the movie in Imax! Thanks

Alors, au sujet de la critique...

J'ai trouve que Francois etait tres ouvert a nos idees et qu'il posait des questions constructives.

J'ai compris que finalement mon costume se fondait un peu trop avec les personnages de l ecole de la medisance a cause de ses couleurs rouges et sombres. Il fallait lui donner quelque chose qui traduise la profonde honnetete de Charles (malgre son addiction au jeu) et son bon fond.

Il m a suggere de garder la veste tailleur couleur aubergine mais de faire les pantalons, le veston et la chemise de couleur blanc-creme pour symboliser la lumiere. Bonne idee!

Je vais garder les decorations minutieuses typique rococo et les broderies de fil dore.

C etait interessant de voir tous nos dessins sur la meme table et de voir que toutes les couleurs s'accordaient plutot bien ensemble.

On a fait du bon boulot, de quoi etre fieres... :)
